Yes, yes, yes, kiehl’s is here

The best news ever. Kiehl’s comes to South Africa and opens its first store in Africa today, Edgars Sandton City. Kiehl’s started as an old-style European apothecary in New York’s East Village in 1851 and soon became a sought after iconic skin brand for its quality of ingredients and product as well as their ethics. I just love the no frills packaging!

Marketa Havlik-Liebenberg, the General Manager for L’Oreal Luxe is confident the brand will be a success in South Africa. She says the zeitgeist is right to launch an alternative luxury brand: “A recent study by Ernst & Young on luxury and cosmetics concluded that people are increasingly looking for brands that offer “value” and “values”. Authenticity and a brand’s ability to convey genuine values by communicating the know-how and established traditions and craftsmanship are increasingly important. Kiehl’s is performing well globally despite tough economic times because customers believe Kiehl’s offers value. People are drawn to brands that are not self-centred or self-serving and these are the founding values that gives Kiehl’s its global cult status.”

She goes on to say,” The ingredients are the single most important component in a Kiehl’s product and only formulas with ingredients that are truly beneficial to the skin are selected. We therefore offer the highest concentrations of the finest ingredients at an accessible price. This has always resonated with customers in existing and new markets. The sophisticated South African customer appreciates value and we believe Kiehl’s values will resonate with them”.

So I got to test out a few products and I’m hooked! The Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 Mint is going to be a handbag must. The mint is fresh and invigorating while the petroleum based texture is soothing and immediately smooths.

LOVE the Midnight Recovery Serum. Not only is it paraben, fragrance and mineral oil free, but you only need to use 2-3 drops at a time, meaning this will last for ages! It contains squalane, a botanical lipid similar to natural lipids found in our skin, evening primrose oil, omega-6 fatty acids and essential oils like lavender to leave skin hydrated, smoothed and rested. I love this beauty ritual of warming the drops in my hands and pressing it into my skin to reveal a radiant glow and a beautiful botanical fragrance. I’m going to try this under my moisturiser on a night out for an added glow.

I’m mad about this moisturizer. My skin absolutely glows after applying it. Again a little goes a long way but it absorbs easily. It’s fairly fluid but really creamy and just feels so nourishing and can be used on all skin types. I’ve definitely seen and felt a noticeable difference in my skin using these Kiehl’s products.

Kiehl’s will be coming to Cape Town and Durban, so don’t worry, you will get your hands on Kiehl’s and I’m sure with out a doubt, you will love it too!
