Woolworths wednesday

It’s that time of year to bring out the glitz and glamour. It’s party time!

This long, classic red, knot-twist halter neck dress, R325, caught my eye. Give it a vintage twist with these vintage floral wedges, R399, vintage drop earrings, R39.95, red sling bag, R150, available in red, blue or white and a splash of bright red Bloom nail polish. Up styles are big this season,  follow these easy steps to complete your vintage look with a French Twist.

1.) To build volume in your locks, massage a thickening lotion all through damp hair (at Dolce & Gabbana the hair team used Redken’s Thickening Lotion 06 – All Over Body Builder). The key is to maintain a natural movement, so avoid using a brush when your hair is still wet. Let the hair naturally dry.

2.) If your hair still lacks beach-like texture, apply a texturizing cream to the roots, especially around the crown. Guido suggests Redken’s Soft Texturizing Cream-Wax.
3.) The hair should be completely dry by this stage, don’t proceed to the next step if it isn’t. Dry hair is essential for styling this look.
4.) Backbrush (not back comb – very important to know the difference) the hair to add more texture and rough volume to the roots of the hair. Start from the nape of the neck and work upwards.
5.) Once your hair has the volume and texture, finger comb the hair back, away from the face, and pull hair back into a French twist. Secure with bobby pins.
Blow-dry the fringe in an upward motion to create a quiff bouffant, and then pull it back and secure with bobby pins.
Don’t pull back the hair too tightly; make sure to keep the hair loose around the face. You need to maintain the naturalness of the look here.
Finish it off with some hairspray, if needed.

I LOVE this black Studio.w luxe short shell suit, R399 for a more modern look and feel. Fab for day wear with flat sandals, but super trendy for an evening cocktail party. Pair it with this leather Studio.w clutch, R275, plaited wedges, R299 and add a little colour and sparkle with this beaded necklace, R120. I’d pair a gorgeous smokey eye with this look with your Benefit party make-up kit, R350.

Here are a few easy steps to create your festive season smokey eye.

You’ll need:

1.  Primer – try Smashbox photo finish primer, R160
2.  Gel Liner in Black – try Bloom liquid eyeliner, R120
3.  Mascara – try the 3-1 mascara, R120, to create volume, curl and maximize your length.
4.  Two shadow colors. One light and one dark. Try Clarins mono eye shadows, R195

1. Start with your primer. Apply a full face primer and an eye primer over the lids. This helps keep shadow from smudging and crinkling in the crease.

2. Apply the lighter color you are working with (in this case let’s say gray) all over the lid and up to the crease (choose any dark pigmented color of your choice for the colored smoky eye which seems to be very popular this year).

3. Once you have your gray color evenly applied over the lids, add the darker color to the crease and outside the corners of your eye. Make sure you blend your colors! Blending is key for the perfect smoky eye. This will give you that “open eye” look.

4.  Add your gel liner across the lash line, on the top and bottom. While the gel is still wet,  use another brush to smudge and pull the liner up onto the lid. This will darken and give the eye that extra smoky look you are going for.

5. Curl lashes and add mascara in the blackest black color you can find. Let the mascara dry for about 30 seconds and apply a few more layers.

I love this little black, ruffle side belted dress, R299 for a day time function. I’d pair it with these cuff strap heels, R499 or strappy flower sandal, R140, a metallic sling bag, R180, a ribbon alice-band for some fun, R 39.95. Sculpt you cheeks with Smashbox fusion soft light blush, R270.

Here are a few tips on how to get the perfected sculpted cheeks.

1.) Sweep bronzer under the jaw line from the ear to the chin, it has a slimming effect and will make the face look more angular.

2.) Make a fish-face and apply the bronzer under the cheekbones. Always stroke in an inward motion – from the ear towards the center of the face.

3.)To perfect the sun-kissed guise, dab cream blush on the apples of your cheeks and take it out all the way till your ears. Always smile when applying blush and work in circular, dabby motion.

4.) Add some highlighter powder on the top of your cheeks to create a halo effect.

Woolworths has an array of gorgeous make-up, fragrances and fashion to keep you sparkling this festive, party season. Go play!
