Silver Lining

Make up artist Jade Leggat shares with us, one of summer’s hottest make-up trends.
So we know metallics are back and while the bronze and gold versions seem easy and wearable, what about silver?  A little more scary or daring for some, silver’s in fact flattering on all eye colours and most skin tones. My rule of thumb, the darker your skin, the darker the silver you can wear. Pale skins love soft white silvers, while dark skins radiate with a wash of charcoal shimmer over the lid.

Here’s how to wear silver. First line the lids with a black coal pencil, as close to the lash line as you can get it, this gives the eye some definition. With a medium dome brush wash the silver shadow of choice across the eye lid, avoiding the eyeliner carefully. To keep the look conservative, keep the shadow on the lid only. For a day to night transition, push the shadow higher past the crease towards the brow bone.

With a small blending brush or a earbud, smudge the liner you applied in step one into the eyeshadow this creates a seamless effect. Finish with lengthening mascara, comb through to avoid lumps as they will be more obvious with the silver as a ‘highlighting’ backdrop.
