BEAUTY FEATURE FRIDAY: PONY TAIL ROUND UP

Shelene of Tanaz, hair stylist to S.A Beauty Editors, gives us some tips on face shapes and pony tails…

ROUND:Wearing a pony tail high on your head will add height and make your face look thinner and give it more length. Never a middle parting always a definite side.

SQUARE: Wearing a pony tail along with pieces pulled out or tendrils will help soften any angular features. Off Centre partings, and don’t forget the floaty bits.

LONG: Pigtails and then tease them and scrunch them into two buns near your ears. This will help accentuate your cheekbones and make your face look wider. A Modern Horizontal parting or a Zig Zag parting.

HEART-SHAPED: Wearing a low pony tail along with a fringe or hair swept across your forehead will visually shorten a wide forehead, and add some fullness around the neckline. Preferably no parting.

VARIATIONS ON A PONYTAIL: Take a ponytail loosely  in the nape of your neck and just above the elastic part the hair with your fingers and then pull the ponytail through the hole. This creates a soft loop that is very stylish for the evening.

Scrunch your hair and then put it in ponytail that is loose at the nape of your neck or on the top depending on your face shape and then gather the scrunch into a small ball and clip it in place and this should give you a very loose tendrils bun.

Take your solid pony tail and then split it in two and braid the two sections and then wrap it around your elastic and build a very interesting bun.

Thick hair wind into a Zulu knot and then put an elastic over and/or clip it. This will give you a soft twist and when you take it out you will have such great waves.

Thanks Shelene, I love the Zulu knot tip… def giving that a try this weekend xx

BEAUTY FEATURE FRIDAY: HAIR DO’S & DON’TS

I spoke to my hair stylist Shelene of Tanaz and asked her what we should and shouldn’t be doing with our locks, along with some key tips.

1.) What is your best hair saving tip?

‘Illusion” DO YOUR COLOUR AND BLOW DRY ONE MONTH AND THEN THE FOLLOWING MONTH DO A HAIRLINE COLOUR AND CUT. THIS WAY WHAT HAPPENS IS THAT YOU HAVE SPLIT THE COSTS .  ANOTHER TIP IS TO DO A COLOUR ON THE TOP PART OF THE HAIR WHICH I CALL A HALO COLOUR…….THIS IS COLOUR ON THE CROWN.  A CUT MAKES THE COLOUR LOOK FRESHER…….IT REMOVES THE DULL ENDS.

ALSO SAVE YOUR FIVE RAND COINS AND USE THEM AS INDULGENCE CHIPS…….

2.) Any products you’re raving about right now?

I LOVE THE INOA COLOUR, IT IS UNBELIEVABLE ON THE HAIR CONDITION.  FOR GREAT CURL WELLA GLAZE IS THE BEST LOCKER IN. FOR FRIZZY HAIR YOU NEED THE LA BRASILIANA BLOWOUT. BLONDES NEED TO USE THE LOREAL SHAMPOO SILVER…….TO KEEP THAT YELLOW OUT.  ALSO KERASTASE HAS JUST LAUNCHED THE MOST AMAZING OIL CALLED ELIXIR ULTIME…….PRODUCT OF THE YEAR FOR ME.

3.) A Hair product you can’t live without?

THAT WOULD BE THE ELIXIR ULTIME AND ALSO WELLA GLAZE FOR CURLY HAIR.

4.) Any tips for looking after hair in the sun or spending the day on the beach?

IF YOU ARE GOING TO SWIM IN THE SEA YOU WOULD WANT TO WET YOUR HAIR FRIST WITH FRESH WATER, USE BOTTLED WATER IF NO TAP….THIS MEANS THAT THE HAIR WILL ABSORB LESS SALT AND CHEMICALS…….IF YOU ARE SPENDING THE DAY OUT….THEN PUT TONS OF CONDITONER OR MASQUE AND LEAVE IT ON FOR THE DAY…..WEAR A HAT. THIS WILL HELP SAVE YOUR COLOUR OR IF YOU ARE GOING ON HOLIDAY COLOUR ONE SHADE DARKER THAN USUAL THEN IF THE SUN BLEACHES THE COLOUR YOU DONT GO TO LIGHT.

5.) Any hair don’ts?

TRY NOT TO COLOUR YOUR HAIR MORE THAN THREE SHADES LIGHTER…….DO NOT CONDITION YOUR HAIR, IT IS CONDITIONER THAT MAKES THE HAIR LESS STATIC……AND NEVER CONDITION YOUR ROOTS.

6.) Brush or comb?

COMB ON WET HAIR AND BRUSH ON DRY HAIR IF YOUR HAIR IS STRAIGHT. CURLY HAIR SHOULD NEVER BE BRUSHED……ONLY COMBED WHEN WET.

7.) How often should one go for a treatment?

HAVE A TREATMENT EVERY SIX WEEKS……

8.) Should one take a break from colouring?

NO NEVER!IT’S IMPORTANT TO LOOK GOOD 🙂 BUT MAKE SURE THAT YOUR STYLIST DOES NOT ALWAYS REAPPLY COLOUR OVER COLOUR……THIS IS WHAT DAMAGES YOUR HAIR….

I love the R5 tip… I’m off to find a jar for my spoiling fund! Happy Friday x
