Win a Shellac Mani & Pedi at Urban Apothecary

Urban Apothecary have just bought in a fabulous new nail product, Shellac. I’m dying to try it out. Will let you know when I do! But you get to try it out too. One lucky Cape Town Reader stands the chance to WIN a Shellac Mani, Pedi & Eyebrow Threading with Urban Apothecary.

Says Charlie of Urban Apothecary: “Its a hybrid polish which lasts up to 14 days & is great as there is NO buffing to the nail & NO acetone used in the process or for removal, so no damage to the nail!!”

Says Shellac:

“CND Shellac is the original, one and only Power Polish. It’s not a gel polish – which are basically just “watered” down gels. It’s a true innovation in chip-free, extended-wear nail color! It goes on beautifully, wears beautifully, dries immediately and removes with no damage. Shellac is designed as a system. The application service time for Shellac nails is only 30/45 minutes, and Shellac goes on with the ease of a traditional bottle of nail polish. The dry time is zero – yes, that’s right, zero! There’s also no odor, and no damage to nails. Shellac is 3-free (contains no formaldehyde, DBP (dibutyl phthalate) and toluene). Shellac polish lasts for 14+ days, with durable shine that resists chips, scratches, and smudges. Finally, enjoy the easy-off that only Shellac delivers. Removal time is brief (10 minutes), and the method doesn’t damage the nails or surrounding skin.”

TO WIN:

Share this post on one of your social media tabs (Twitter/Facebook/Google Plus etc) and tell me where you  have in the comments section on my blog. Hopefully it’s happy pampering for you! xx

Winner announced 8 July / Winner has 30 days to claim prize / Winner must be in Cape Town

Urban apothecary & urban lash & tan

So I did a little Spa-Salon round up a little while ago, if you missed it you can read it here, and I mentioned I’d tell you more about my fabulous experience at Urban Apothecary,  recently joined by Urban Lash & Tan. Now as I mentioned, this is a real one-stop-beauty-shop. I got my browse threaded which is super quick with fabulous results. I still thik threading offers the best shape.

I then got my eyelashes beautified with Lisa’s amazing eyelash extensions. Here is a before an after, and below is my before and after. I must say, I got loads of compliments. You can feel them the first day or two, but they are by no means uncomfortable, by day 3 you’re not even aware of your natural looking, longer, thicker lashes. You can opt for a more natural or “conservative” look like I did, or go Va Va Voom! I’ve really been enjoying my lashes, and I’ve not missed putting mascara on.

Urban Apothecary also does a fabulous Mani & Pedi. I’ve been twice and was super happy both times.

The beginning of summer can be such a scare, especially if you have a special occasion. Why not try Lisa’s air brushes spray tan.

“Ageless Tan is a skin perfecting therapeutic sunless tanning solution for the face and body, formulated to create exceptionally rich colour on the skin while reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and skin imperfections. The streak-free, non-sticky formula is easy to apply and very quick to dry, leaving skin glowing with a long-lasting sunless tan that looks incredibly smooth and natural on all skin types.” says Lisa

Me with my tan and lashes. He he.

Spa to salon to counter round up

I’ve discovered some old and new spa’s, salons and beauty counter experiences in the last couple of weeks and thought I’d share a few of  my favourite things about them.

First off it was off to Urban Apothecary with the lovely Charlie (below) who has just been joined by Lisa of Urban Lash & Tan. Your sunless tan and eyelash fairy godmother.

This lovely salon is like a little one stop beauty shop. Get your brows plucked, nails polished, sport a sunless tan and flutter your new Hollywood lashes as you wave goodbye! It’s great to sit back and relax or for a quick in and out emergency pedi.

Keep posted to see my lashes before and after. And a full report on my experience. Check out http://www.urbanapothecary.co.za for a price list and mail Lisa at spraytancapetown.co.za for fabulous lashes. So many compliments on mine. Thanks Lisa.

Just around the corner is the Dermalogica Skin Bar. Dermalogica on Wembley is Dermalogica’s 9th concept space worldwide and the first on the African continent. I went for a series of 3 microzone treatment facials. A Dermalogica skin coach will firstly analyse your skin, and then perform a 20minute facial to target your concerns. This is a fabulous treatment to have over a lunch break, as it’s only 20 minutes with great results. You also have the option of a little foundation afterwards should you be rushing off somewhere that you feel you need it.

My skin felt like a babies bottom after this treatment.  A bt-micro system machine including microcurrent technology is used on your face to deliver ultimate results for your skin by allowing the product to penetrate deeper into the skin. I really enjoyed this facial.

I’m now hooked on the silicone based, Multi Vitamin Power Firm. An eye gel that can be used on the lips. I say gel, but it’s an extremely soft and delicate silicone texture. I especially love it on my lips after washing my face. Really soothing and smoothing.

I haven’t been to Ambiente Spa since it was re-vamped a while back. It’s the most delightful spa. Really pretty, calming and what stood out for me, were signs around indicating a lot of respect for quiet. Loved that! There’s nothing worse than trying to relax while having your treatment and there are people just generally being loud outside. I had a fabulous pedicure and my therapist took such a care. Very thorough indeed! I have lots more news from them coming soon.

I also just discovered this little hair salon, Reve, in Chelsea Village, Wynberg. Just loved it. It’s small and intimate and there is somewhat of a more personal experience than a huge salon.

These chairs had to be the coolest part though, at a click of a button, the leg rest raises and voila, relax.

Thanks to Angie for my fabulous blow wave and treatment. I’ll be back.

Yves Rocher has recently come to South Africa and are exclusive to Woolworths. I got to go and play and get some counter time with the lovely Yves Rocher Team. Yves Rocher is an eco-friendly range dedicated to botanical beauty. I tried the Anti-Fatigue Cream Last night which has the most beautiful rich texture. A perfect pick me up product that can be used day & night. I love that none of their products are over R300. Fabulous!

I must say, my favourite product was the High Shine High Colour Nail Lacquer in Coral. My summer colour! Done! xx

BEAUTY FEATURE FRIDAY: URBAN APOTHECARY

Image: Harpers Bazaar

Last week I went for a mani & pedi at Urban Apothecary at Wembley Square.

I love that you could grab a Vida or a snack at Knead if you wish. Mmm, Vida while getting your nails done. I could think of worse scenarios!

But what impressed me most, is that when I was there and tweeted about how fab my feet were looking and feeling, I had some definite die hard Urban Apothecary Fans tweet me back, saying it’s the only place they go. Now that’s customer love!

Charlie (above) was a laugh a minute as she chatted to her regulars.

Urban Apothercary is an upmarket, express nail bar. Don’t expect a spa bed and dimmed lights. Apparently lots of girls in the building come in groups to catch up and chat over a foot massage and lashings of new nail lacquer.

I can see why, the foot massage is GOOD, and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly.

I’d definitely book another appointment at Urban Apothecary. The prices are competitive, the nail bar is as the name says, urban, clean and sophisticated and my nails looked amazing. There was a great selection in colour choice, and plenty of glossy magazine’s to give me a good fashion fix. I’m a fan!
