The humans rode the camels two by two, hurrah!

So on our first day in Marrakesh after arriving in a bustling Jemaa el Fnaa square on a Saturday evening after 34 hours of travelling, we went to the Ourika Valley with Splash Morocco Adventure Tours. I was so exhausted on arrival I seriously debated cancelling our tour, but was SO happy to have done it. A definite highlight during our 2 1/2  week stay in Morocco. Andy our tour guide was awesome and a wealth of knowledge and humour.

We started our day by experiencing a traditional Berber home and enjoying mint tea the Berber way. While they drink their mint tea super sweet (Too sweet for me) , it was such an amazing experience not to mention the delicious home made bread with olive oil and honey. The Ourika Valley itself is just beautiful and driving into the Atlas Mountains a must.

After full bellies of bread and tea, it’s off to ride a camel! I’m not going to lie, I was a bit nervous, but they are so chilled and it was GREAT fun!

Later a hike into the Atlas Mountains through a local village passing spice shops, curious and restaurants. We hiked up to some waterfalls –  it really was an easy walk. Andy feeds off the group. If there are a young bunch of adventure seekers then you are welcome to hike for a few hours, but if you’re not so brave, it’s not far to just see the waterfalls. We ended off the day with a beautiful lunch of Moroccan salad, bread, cous cous and tagines.

I highly recommend this day trip, especially if you don’t have much time in Morocco or you’re not going to do a walking/camping trip in the Atlas Mountains or Desert. If you are interested in any other trip as I’ve mentioned, Splash Morocco Adventure Tours will also organize that for you! They are fantastic! Visit them here for up coming tours.
